The Co-Founders:
The Community Finance Academy is the culmination of decades of experience and a shared vision, born from the partnership of two experienced social entrepreneurs, activists and trainers: Stephen Shaff and Bill Huston.

Stephen Shaff:
The Architect of Community-Vision
Stephen Shaff is a social entrepreneur and the founder of Community-Vision Solutions (C-VS), driven by a mission to confront the broken community development paradigm. His career is marked by a relentless pursuit of integrated economic and community development and activism, aiming for transformative economic and community change. With experience developing approximately $100 million in real estate projects, Shaff has focused on creating affordable housing and fostering homeownership. His impact extends to founding, co-founding, leading, or helping fund over ten non-profit organizations dedicated to community development, political activism, social justice, and community arts.
Shaff's influence spans from underserved communities in metro Washington, D.C., to a national network of advocacy and political, environmental, and social justice relationships. He played a pivotal role in the inception, funding, development, and consultation for award-winning institutions like Joe's Movement Emporium, the Gateway Community Development Corporation and the Loft on 14th, ensuring their permanent community footprint.
Shaff masterfully merges his expertise as a housing developer, community organizer, national political activist, and social-solutions strategist, collaborating with influential elected officials who share his vision for sustainable social and economic equality. Community-Vision Solutions leverages these collaborations to seek partners for profit, impact, and replicable solutions.
